How to get started with GT-Position
The start-up package contains one PC interface/receiver, 2 positioning receivers, one sender (one loco) plus all SW and installation guides.
GT-Position can be used almost immediately, without requiring any modifications to most model railway layouts. The positioning receivers are fitted above the layout, and the senders into the loco, or a carriage/wagon.

A few of the advantages are:
A better operating experience, better/easier automatic operation, less wiring, savings on feed-back modules, no more physical track isolation, etc.

As soon as you have installed the GT-position receivers and inserted the first sender into a train you can start drawing your layout and automating operations. If you wish to add a 3rd receiver it will enable 3D drawing and positioning for those with multi-level layouts.

If you already have feed-back modules on your layout, GT-Position can work together with them using GT-Command (purchased separately) and you can use GT-position to fine tune the automation on top of what you already have, or you can extend your layout based on GT-position only.

GT-Position is independent of your control system. You only need the integration with your control system and GT-Command if you want to control and/or automate.
If you just want tracking, monitoring and layout drawing, then you can use GT-Position alone. The only requirement is that you can supply the trains /wagons with power. You can drive using a lokmouse or any handheld control device.

Advantages of GT-Position
- Very precise layout drawings with true geometry, your train measures your layout and draws it as it moves.
- With a GPS system you know at all times the position, and later the whole length of your train, displayed on your screen.
- Automation can be set up for each individual train using GT-Command (purchase separately). It is 'location aware' model train control.
- No need to cut tracks and isolate rails in order to get feed-back for position and block occuancy.
- Reduce wires and time spent under the layout wiring and fault finding.
- Adding a new block requires only 4 mouse clicks, or remove the old one with one click.
- Later, when you expand the layout you can easily expand the track plan with all your track positions. You just need to open the file and start driving again.

Challenges:
- Like any new addition, it is a new investment, but also offset by equivalent saving against other modules.
- As you are used to with DCC, you either need to buy a loco which already has the sender inserted, modify the loco yourself, use a wagon after the train, or use battery operation for the sender.
