Modelmates Mud Brown weathering dye
Muddy - dirty colour. It's just like painting with mud!

Due to shipping restrictions, this product must be sent by courier and cannot be shipped overseas. It's often better value to combine your purchase with several other items.

Ready Mixed Weathering Liquid In Plastic pots - 18ml

Gives a coating that looks like years of dirt build up.
Can be sprayed, Brushed or applied with a cloth or sponge.

Medium - higher density.
Medium - less translucent.
Medium solubility in water.
Easy to use due to the medium quantity of dye in the liquid.

It really does look like dirt. One quick coat makes models look really weathered. One of the most effective colours.
Works really well on its own where it is very, very effective. Also works really well mixed with Slate Grey or Light Grey.
If you are buying just one jar, then make it either this one, or Oil Brown.

On grass, tree and shrub foliage Mud Brown looks a dark muddy colour. It can be very visible when dry, so not much spray is needed.
It is one of the best sprays for use on ballast and roads, creating a really muddy/dirty finish. Works well on railway tracks and sleepers, making them look really dirty. Wipe it off the top of the track using a damp tissue after it has dried.

Mud Brown looks like mud when applied to model houses and trains. It's quite dark and is one of the most visible liquids.
It is still hard to see on dark coloured models.

A Dye & Not A Paint

The same colours as in the spray cans (see what is it), but the liquid has a slightly thicker consistency and is a little more matt. The ready mixed liquid is designed to be used straight from the jar into the airbrush, or into a pot for application by brush and does not need thinning. Dries very quickly. The liquid is water soluble and translucent, just like the spray cans. It’s dye, not acrylic paint. For use on models and scenery. Can be applied to plastic, metal, stone, plaster, painted surfaces, card and paper.

Airbrushing
Shake well before each use. If you have a gravity feed airbrush, shake the jar well and use a dropper to drip 5 or 6 drops into the cup on the top and use straight away. Apply under low pressure, perhaps 10 psi, and always wear a good quality face mask when spraying. Clean the airbrush in warm water after use.

Applying by Brush
Shake the jar well and use like a paint. Apply straight from the jar using a brush. If the jar has been standing for more than 5 minutes, shake it again before painting. To make recesses and panel lines look dirty, apply the weathering liquid by paint brush or cotton bud, wait until dry, then wipe the weathering liquid off the surface using a slightly damp tissue or cotton bud. This leaves some of the weathering liquid trapped in the recesses and panel lines. The dryer the tissue or cotton bud, the less weathering liquid is removed - the wetter the tissue or cotton bud, the more weathering liquid is removed.

When dry, the weathering liquid can be rewetted using just water, and smudged or wiped to create more realistic weathering effects, just like the Modelmates weathering spray cans. Smudge it to make rain staining or remove create highlighted areas.

For interior use, (but can be applied to exterior surfaces if sealed first with a matt sealer/varnish spray). If a surface is porous it will absorb the weathering liquid and cause permanent stains, apply a small amount to hidden a surface to test if it is porous and also to ensure compatibility and adhesion before final application. Please read instructions on jar before use. If application is by airbrush, use a lower pressure when spraying. Always use in a well ventilated space and wear a good quality face mask. Wash airbrush in warm water after use.
