Modelmates Soot Black weathering dye
A really rich matt black, the darkest by far.

Due to shipping restrictions, this product must be sent by courier and cannot be shipped overseas. It's often better value to combine your purchase with several other items.

Ready Mixed Weathering Liquid In Plastic pots - 18ml
Can be sprayed, brushed or applied with a cloth or sponge

Very high density, very, very dark.
Least translucent, almost opaque.
Least soluble in water.
Most difficult product to use due to the density of the dye used. Just a little makes things very black.

A really dense matt black dye, really effective and very, very dark.
Looks great when used for soot staining on tunnel openings and in coal yard.
Use it in coal wagons and it looks like really black coal residue.
Also use a light spray on plastic houses and smudge with a damp tissue, the residue sits in the mortar joints really well.
Because its sooty black it's easy to make very black weathering very quickly, usually with one coat.

Please take care when using on models, it's very intense and much darker than the other Modelmates sprays.
Use sparingly - least water soluble.

Many uses
Looks great as soot staining on tunnel openings, and as coal black in coal yards.
It's possibly too black to use on trees, shrubs and grass.
Makes ballast look really soot stained. Many people buy Soot Black to use it on ballast in coal yards.
Works well on railway tracks and sleepers, making them look really coal black. Wipe it off the top of the track using a damp tissue after it has dried.

Use it on brick and stonework on plastic and moulded buildings to get a really black stain, but only around the base of the building. Spray a light coat, let it dry and then wipe it off with a lightly damp tissue to leave it trapped in the joints.
Care needs to be taken if it to be used as soot staining around funnels on loco's, the spray is not that directional and can be hard to apply in small areas. It will also stain more than any of the other sprays.

A Dye & Not A Paint
Ready Mixed Weathering Liquid In Plastic pots - 18ml

Airbrushing
Shake well before each use. If you have a gravity feed airbrush, shake the jar well and use a dropper to drip 5 or 6 drops into the cup on the top and use straight away. Apply under low pressure, perhaps 10 psi, and always wear a good quality face mask when spraying. Clean the airbrush in warm water after use.

Applying by Brush
Shake the jar well and use like a paint. Apply straight from the jar using a brush. If the jar has been standing for more than 5 minutes, shake it again before painting. To make recesses and panel lines look dirty, apply the weathering liquid by paint brush or cotton bud, wait until dry, then wipe the weathering liquid off the surface using a slightly damp tissue or cotton bud. This leaves some of the weathering liquid trapped in the recesses and panel lines. The dryer the tissue or cotton bud, the less weathering liquid is removed - the wetter the tissue or cotton bud, the more weathering liquid is removed.

When dry, the weathering liquid can be rewetted using just water, and smudged or wiped to create more realistic weathering effects, just like the Modelmates weathering spray cans. Smudge it to make rain staining or remove create highlighted areas.

For interior use, (but can be applied to exterior surfaces if sealed first with a matt sealer/varnish spray). If a surface is porous it will absorb the weathering liquid and cause permanent stains, apply a small amount to hidden a surface to test if it is porous and also to ensure compatibility and adhesion before final application. Please read instructions on jar before use. If application is by airbrush, use a lower pressure when spraying. Always use in a well ventilated space and wear a good quality face mask. Wash airbrush in warm water after use.
